SUMMARY:Foil Arms and Hog - OinK
DESCRIPTION: ** This is an over 15’s show. Children over 15 and under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Under 15’s will not be permitted entry.**\n\nFormer children and regular eaters Foil\, Arms and Hog are back with their new show on Tuesday 24th October at Wexford Spiegeltent Festival.\n\nOinK is a faced paced sketch show featuring a collection of songs for the elderly\, a baggage handlers interpretive dance and a shop that naively only sells balaclavas.\nBest known for their YouTube videos (50 million online hits)\, their live show is what they’re most proud of. They’ve sold out every year in Wexford since 2014\, a run that must surely end\, but hopefully not this year.\n\n\n“Oink is yet another riotous success from three Fringe favourites. 4 Stars” – Broadway Baby\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Lisa Hannigan - All Ages
DESCRIPTION:***This is a seated show*** \nAll ages matinee show at 5pm\, ticket Pricing: \n\nUnder 18’s €12\nAdults €20\n\nWe’re delighted to announce that Lisa Hannigan will perform two intimate shows in the Spiegeltent on Wednesday 25th October\, a matinee show for all ages and an evening show.  \nLisa Hannigan first came to light as an angel-voiced\, somewhat mysterious figure singing harmonies alongside Damien Rice. They played together for seven years\, but it wasn’t until the release of her solo debut Sea Sew’ in 2008 that the full spectrum of her abilities became apparent. A joyous kaleidoscope of love songs\, laments\, sea shanties and glockenspiels\, with a cover hand-stitched by Lisa herself\, the self-released album was a runaway success\, nominated for a Choice award in Ireland and a Mercury Music Prize in the UK. The ecstatic reception gave her the confidence to explore deeper\, darker emotions. \nPassenger’\, which came out in 2011\, centred around the pain of leaving and the sense of apartness consequent to a life spent in constant motion while last year’s third album At Swim’ is arguably her most bewitching collection yet. Crackling with an eerie Hallowe’en magic\, every song travels deeper into a darkly magical space where the boundaries between love and death\, past and present\, grief and happiness\, are dissolved. \nDividing her time between London and Dublin\, the album saw Lisa collaborate with The National’s Aaron Dessner and write an album about homesickness\, isolation and yet \,profoundly and very movingly \,about love. It is a record characterised by strange sounds lurking beneath the surface and strokes of idiosyncratic genius\, as well as Lisa’s first ever banjo solo and the breathtaking vocal harmonies that first made us fall in love with her. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Sharon Shannon
DESCRIPTION:***This is a seated show*** \n**Under 16’s will not be permitted** \n**16 & 17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult** \n  \nSharon Shannon and her band perform at the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival on Thursday 26th October. \nSharon Shannon released her brand-new studio album “Sacred Earth”on 17th March 2017. Newly signed to Irish record label Celtic Collections\, this is Sharon’s first new studio album in 3 years and her tenth studio album to date. \nShannon is a musician who likes to surprise. While she is best known for her arrangements of traditional Irish tunes and Irish-influenced compositions\, she has always been eager to explore new styles\, and to meet and work with other musicians. There are Irish influences here\, of course\, but these are cheerfully mixed in with often unexpected styles from around the world\, including – for the first time – Africa. \nSharon has perfectly mastered an African/Irish crossover. But Sacred Earth is more than this: musical elements from the classical world\, the Shetland Fiddle Tradition\, Hip Hop\, country and blues all conspire to make this album a ground-breaker. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Hudson Taylor
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to announce Hudson Taylor will play the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival on Thursday 26th October.   \n***This is a standing show and strictly over 18’s*** \nIrish duo\, brothers Harry and Alfie\, released their long awaited debut album “Singing for Strangers” in 2015. \nThe multi-instrumentalists had honed their craft busking on the streets of their hometown of Dublin as well as all over Europe and in fact gained the albums name from their love of entertaining anyone who would stop and listen. Millions of people did stop by and look at their YouTube videos and there were already several well-loved songs on the album by the time it was released. Produced by the band and long-term collaborator Iain Archer with help from Mike Einziger and Danton Supple in London\, LA and Eastbourne the record features hit songs “Chasing Rubies”\, “Battles” and “Weapons”. \nHaving spent the majority of 2016 on the road touring Ireland\, UK and Europe the siblings are currently back in the studio writing and recording songs for their follow up album. \n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:PJ Gallagher
DESCRIPTION:***This is a seated show*** \nHot off the heels of his 2016 success with Irish Box Office smash hit film “The Young Offenders\, one of Ireland’s most popular comedians\, PJ Gallagher\, brings his new show “Dickhead” to the Spiegeltent on Saturday 28th October.  \nA natural on stage\, PJ’s previous tours\, Concussion and Separated at Birth (with Joanne McNally)\, received critical acclaim and played to sell out audiences. The Dublin funny man is also a festival favourite and regularly plays sold-out shows at Kilkenny Cat Laughs\, The Vodafone Comedy Carnival and the comedy stage at Electric Picnic. \nWell known as the star of RTE’s Naked Camera\, PJ’s various personas in the series included ladies man Jake Stevens\, ‘Dirty Auld One’ and a brilliantly gormless taxi driver who thoroughly duped sports pundits George Hook and the late Bill O’Herlihy. PJ’s other TV shows include Meet your Neighbours\, Next Week’s News and BBC’s The I Hate Show. He also participated in season 4 of Celebrity Bainisteoir\, in which he managed St Patrick’s GAA Club Donabate\, \nA talented broadcaster\, Gallagher presents P. J. and McCabe in the Morning with Jim McCabe on Classic Hits 4FM. More recently\, PJ has also garnered success as an actor. A graduate of the Gaiety School of Acting\, he performed at last year’s Dublin Theatre Festival in Alien Documentary and appeared in The Young Offenders\, which won Best Irish Film at the 2016 Galway Film Fleadh. \nThat guy cracked me up for an entire afternoon that I forgot to meet my wife for lunch. It’s classic comedy but with a twist.”  – Conan O’Brien \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott
DESCRIPTION:***This is a standing show and is strictly over 18’s*** \nPaul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott return to the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival on Saturday 28th of October. \nPaul Heaton has been a wonderfully astute songwriter – composer of the most joyful melodies\, the most barbed lyrics – for four full decades now. But where some artists\, even venerable ones\, can tend to coast somewhat in midlife\, Heaton\, along with his musical foil Jacqui Abbott\, is just hitting his stride. The duo’s new album\, ‘Crooked Calypso’\, brims with his newly-discovered zest for life. \n‘Crooked Calypso’ is 12 tracks long\, and boasts all the hallmarks of Heaton’s inimitable songwriting: songs buoyant with melody\, and redolent with snark\, but also real emotion. One of the songs ‘Blackwater Banks’\, is a most gorgeous waltz that celebrates Ireland and Irishness with a rarefied elegance that we would be proud to call our own. Inspired by Jacqui’s distant Irish roots and a cycling trip Paul made through the Emerald Isle including a stop off in the Sky and the Ground\, it could be a new Irish national anthem. \nPaul Heaton first found fame in the mid-1980s with The Housemartins\, surely one of that decade’s more gleefully idiosyncratic acts. Who else\, after all\, dared mix Christian imagery with Marxist leanings\, a dollop of humour and a side dish of gospel? By 1989\, he was fronting the Beautiful South\, and set about subverting the entire concept of the radio-friendly love song. Beautiful South’s canon was\, and remains\, full of lovely red roses that teetered on stalks of sharp thorns. ‘Song For Whoever’\, which reached number two in 1989\, was to all intents and purposes a classic ballad\, but it was also one written from the point of view of a cynical songwriter who pursued love simply to write more songs about love; and it remains wryly amusing to hear ‘Don’t Marry Her’ still getting heavy rotation on Heart FM today when you know that the album version of the polite single edit features the line “sweaty bollocks” and the joyful chorus of: “Don’t marry her\, fuck me”\, sung by Jacqui Abbott\, a former supermarket shelf stacker\, in arguably the most sublime country voice this side of Nashville. \nBeautiful South sold 15 million records before breaking up in 2007 due to “musical similarities”. Few of his peers could boast such sales. Heaton went solo\, while Abbott devoted time to raising her autistic son. When he contacted her again in 2011 with a view to collaborating once more\, Abbott was thrilled. And we are thrilled to welcome them back to the Spiegeltent once again. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Dermot & Dave The "Ah Sure Lookit" Tour
DESCRIPTION:***This is a seated show*** \n**Under 16’s will not be permitted** \n**16 & 17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult** \nToday FM’s presenters Dermot & Dave are bringing the “Ah Sure Lookit” tour to the Wexford Spiegeltent on Sunday\, October 29th. \nDermot Whelan and Dave Moore debuted their comedy show at the first Cork Comedy Festival last September and the following month at the Vodafone Comedy Carnival in Galway. Both shows sold out in record time.\nThis is the first time the pair has taken to the stage for a comedy gig but they’re well used to each other\, having worked together in radio for over 12 years.\nAsked what people can expect from their stand-up show\, Dermot Whelan said: “Imagine a bonkers radio show that grows legs and arms and a head and starts firing out craic and waving its arms like an angry King Kong in that movie. Not even close.”\nDave Moore commented: “It’s all our listeners’ favourite characters\, stand-up\, improvised comedy\, music and an interactive gardening segment – what’s not to love?!”\nListeners to The Dermot & Dave Show on Today FM will be familiar with their weekly ‘Ah Sure Lookit’ feature where a friend of the show ‘Mac from Carlow’ gives random clues and people are asked to guess what it is Mac is talking about. Although the comedy show has nothing to o with the feature\, the lads just like the name! \n

SUMMARY:Imelda May
DESCRIPTION:***This is a standing show and is strictly over 18’s*** \nImelda May has become one of Ireland’s most celebrated female artists. Discovered by Jools Holland\, who asked Imelda to support him on tour\, Imelda has gone on to perform alongside legendary artists including Lou Reed\, Bono and Smokey Robinson and can count high profile artists including Bob Dylan (who recently revealed he is a fan of Imelda in a rare interview with Bill Flanagan) and Bono amongst her fans. \nProduced by the legendary T Bone Burnett\, Imelda’s new album ‘Life. Love. Flesh. Blood’ was recorded over seven days in Los Angeles and features musical contributions from Jeff Beck (on ‘Black Tears’)\, Jools Holland (on ‘When It’s My Time’) and an accomplished group of backing musicians including the core trio of guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits\, Elvis Costello)\, drummer Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss) and bassist Zach Dawes (The Last Shadow Puppets\, Mini Mansions). \nOn release ‘Life. Love. Flesh. Blood’ topped the UK Americana chart and landed No.5 in the official UK album chart (her second UK top 5)\, ahead of artists including Texas and Drake with her strongest first sales week ever in the UK. One of the most critically acclaimed releases of 2017\, the album spent over a month in the Top 20 and recently returned to the Top 10 \nImelda’s new single ‘Girl I Used To Be’ is out now Decca Records. The track is taken from her Top 5 new album ‘Life. Love. Flesh. Blood’ and follows the BBC Radio 2 playlisted previous singles ‘Call Me’\, ‘Black Tears’ and ‘Should’ve Been You’. A hauntingly beautiful acoustic ballad\, ‘Girl I Used To Be’ a memoir of Imelda’s life growing up in the Liberties area of Dublin\, and the lessons learned she will pass on to her daughter.  \n“I love those old story songs where you’re taken on a journey from beginning to end\,” says Imelda of the track. “Songs you’re riveted with. Like when you’re in the car and you sit in the driveway\, because you can’t turn the radio off\, you have to listen to the end of the story. I thought\, ‘I’d like to write one of them’. The lyrics are about my family\, and my daughter\, and myself and my life growing up in Dublin. We didn’t have much money but my parents are fabulous\, creative and open-minded people. They gave me art and literature and encouraged me to do whatever was in my heart and I want to do that with my daughter.” \n  \n“Imelda May is an amazing singer.  Her voice can illuminate and bring to life songs like no one else.  I was so delighted to hear her new album where she explores new directions and new ideas.  She is a unique talent amongst the great vocalists of today”. \nJools Holland \n  \n“I love the girl she used to be but I think I love even more the woman she’s become. Still mischievous and playful\, still a siren but there’s an ache in her voice now that has me with a glass at my ear to the wall of her world where trouble has entered the room next door. She cries Black Tears\, she’s not inconsolable but you sense a girl retching in her bathroom… addiction… it’s not alcohol\, it’s not drugs… it’s a heart broken like a glass\, spilling over\, smashed on the tiles. There’s an erotic power here that’s not just feminine power. She makes truth telling an invitation to intimacy. How Bad Can a Good Girl Be is a stone cold classic that’ll outlive all of us. It’s always a wonder to watch an alchemist at work\, turning dull gray metals of a life too experienced into gold”. \nBono \n  \n“I’ve never met anyone quite like Imelda May. She is full of life. When I first happened onto her music\, she was a punky Irish Rockabilly singer with a great band. I was intrigued by her deep feeling for and understanding of that American art form\, much of which\, of course\, had originated in Ireland. When I ran across her several years later\, she had gone through a change of lives and was writing about it with a wild intensity and singing about it in the most open hearted way. I was inspired by her honesty and her generosity\, and I continue to be intrigued.” – T Bone Burnett \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:King Kong Company
DESCRIPTION:King Kong Company All Kong-quering Ireland & UK Tour \nHaving brought their brand of Irish ‘get the f*** up and dance’ music to audiences at festivals across Ireland and Europe this summer\, King Kong Company will be taking their award winning live shows indoors at the end of 2017\, with their biggest tour ever\, including their first tour of the UK. \n  \nIt was a summer of memorable gigs. One gig at Vestrock put them in front of 10\,000 Dutch people (they know how to dance)\, the set at Glastonbury won over loads of new fans\, while the audience at Boomtown knew a thing or two about getting ‘something off that’. Their hometown gig at Waterford Spraoi was the largest in the festivals 25 year history\, the cake was well and truly iced with a performance in the biggest tent at Electric Picnic just gone! \n  \nAway from live gigs the band have been busy getting up to no good too. In June they launched a beer in collaboration with Wexford’s YellowBelly brewers. The beer\, Commotion Lotion\, was made with Buckfast. It proved to be a surprising hit with critics and beer lovers. In July the band were invited to play for the President Michael D. Higgins one Monday afternoon. As you do. They performed Donkey Jaw (he did look at his hands). Then in August the band released Involved\, their first track since their highly acclaimed debut in 2016. Within 24 hours\, the slow building banger\, proved to be their most popular track yet. \n  \nIt’s been a good run for a bunch of mates who got together in 2011. They started out back then releasing one music video a month and never had any intentions of gigging. But just like pints\, the first gig lead to another\, then another\, and here we are six years later and what do they have to show for themselves? Quite a lot\, actually. \n  \nCheck out King Kong Company as they embark on a 14 date Ireland and UK tour\, hiiting Wexford on Saturday 25th November 2017 \n

SUMMARY:Mick Flannery
DESCRIPTION:Mick Flannery returns to Wexford once again for a very special Christmas performance on Saturday Dec 30th\, 8pm at the Crown Live. \nIn the end of the day and the heel of the hunt\, you’re left with the songs. Everything else comes and goes – the shows and the tours and the applause and the acclaim\, which goes with them\, the prattle and the palaver which accompany an album release. Everything else fades out of view. Everything else doesn’t matter in the long run. But the songs remain. The songs you write on your own stick around. They’re going to be here for many years to come so they deserve to be treated with due care and utmost respect in the creation process. \nMick Flannery realised this a long time ago. He also realised that songwriting was the best part of this strange job of being a jobbing-gigging-talking-singing musician. \n
